The first snow of the year
What happens when twenty-eight preschoolers meet four inches of fresh snow, and why we went outside anyway.

The forecast said a dusting. We got four inches, a lot of very excited children, and one very lost mitten.
Why we always go out
Cold days are when children notice the most: their breath, the crunch underfoot, how a footprint fills in. So we bundled up and spent the whole morning outside.
What the Fireflies figured out
The Firefly Room spent an hour testing which things melt fastest on a warm hand. (Snow wins. Icicles are slower. Teachers’ patience, it turns out, is endless.)
Reminder: please send snow pants, boots, and a spare pair of dry socks every day from now until April.
